For this assignment, I chose witches scene, in the 1971 Polanski version witches are depicted as old, ugly ladies with in witchy clothes inside. They are in landscape that there are no trees and no other things that can belong to nature.Weather is filthy and in some kind dark.According to play, when withes are talking and doing their ritual, war continues but nothing related to war in the scene. When I first saw this scene first question came up to mind is  If there is a battle where are soldiers where are guns or noises about bombs etc.?  But other 1998 version of Macbeth is somewhat satisfies my questions about war. Because in this version witches is not seem like witches in Polanski version, they look like ordinary women who helps soldiers in war.For this version scene begins with gun sounds and director wanted audience to see witches in war, helping soldiers. And when they talking the first lines of Macbeth, sequence is changed by director. And director made this scene is shorter than Polanski's version. In Polanski's version, witches are more like I have imagiend when I first read Macbeth, they are mysterious, have clothes which can belong to witches, they are old ugly ladies, doing rituals and take power from themselves when they are doing rituals. Except depicting witches scene in war time in 1998 version, other things about these witches did not satisfied my imagination. But another version,2010 Rupert Goold(3.22) that came interesting to me also. Witches are more modern and nurses in war. They first seem like they are trying to save soldier from being dead. But when they are alone and all the other men in hospital are gone the lights of corridor that they are standing became dark and they became alone with soldier. who is died because of witches. One of witches rips his heart and hold it when they do ritual. Then saying"Fair is foul, and foul is fair, Hover through the fog and filthy air" And they are somekind of dark ladies. To sum up, if Polanski tried a little more effort about war in witches scene, this will be the most similar my imagined scene.
