BANQUO'S GHOST
This image belongs to the scene when Macbeth sees Banquo's ghost during the feast and he is scared of him. He talks to Banquo's ghost during the feast and it's a supernatural and weird scene, because except Macbeth nobody sees Banquo's ghost. They think that Macbeth's gone crazy and his state of mind is not normal. However, in Macbeth' reality, Banquo's ghost exists and it follows him.
The image depicts the scene in a powerful way, because Macbeth's fearful reaction can be easily seen. The atmosphere of a feast is created well in a visual way. Colors of the picture are gloomy and Banquo's ghost is in white. At the same time, guests' reactions are also depicted visually. Their faces express shock.
In my opinion, this picture is so powerful and this scene of the play is the one of the most memorable scenes. Both the picture and the play combine each other.

Thank you for this image. As we've discussed in the class, seeing the ghost of Banquo and acting like the ghost of Banquo is there have different effects on the viewers. I think you're right about the effectiveness of fearful reaction of Macbeth in this supernatural scene. Therefore, it is possible for viewer to experience this torment and horror which brings viewer closer to Macbeth rather than judging him as an outsider. It seems to me that the supernatural interpretation is important for expressing the way Macbeth feels and sees.
ReplyDeleteAs we discussed in the class in this scene Macbeth sees Banquo's ghost because of his overwhelming guilt. Shakespeare makes Macbeth see the ghost and the floating dagger to show how guilty Macbeth felt and how it was affecting him psychologically and from this scene as a reader we can realize the insanity of the Macbeth.
ReplyDeleteThis painting is particularly successful because it depicts each character in a unique way. Macbeth is pointing/trying to reach out to Banquo's ghost and his terror can be read on his face. Some other guests are looking at Macbeth in a weird way. I think it all fits perfectly.
