Romanticism: 

Enlightenment thinkers perceived individuals as thinking machines. They were opposed to everything which blocked human reason. The Church was to be blamed for keeping people from using their reason. However, some people did not like this approach. The Romantics attacked Enlightenment because they claim that values that Enlightenment thinkers cherish turn human beings into soulless robots. The Romantics did not find any emotion and creativity in the Enlightenment philosophes. And they asked, “"what shall I do when I have read all the books?" William Godwin (1756-1836).  According to the Romantics, individuals should get rid of the civilization which is built on the reason. And all habits, values and standards which is dictated by civilization should be abandoned. They valued freedom of human beings.
