Banking System in Renaissance Italy and Its Effect on Renaissance


Although in class we briefly mentioned the banking and bankers in renaissance Italy, I decided to learn more about this subject and upon a bit of research realized that banking had much more impact on events happening during the Renaissance and on the Renaissance itself than I initially thought. In short, merchants found it easier to exchange cash in terms of bills rather than actual money itself, and since Italy and specifically Florence was an important center of trading, having large banks in these locations was a necessity. Soon, bankers grew so rich, that they could fund numerous artists and boost their creativity, casuing the Renaissance bloom in Italy.
