Soul Inside of Concrete

I have always believed that something that is not constructed in factory has its soul inside, story behind it, it contains past and present. Because its origin comes from human who is part of the nature. For this assignment I have watched the video called Peter Zumthor: Real and Imagined Buildings. From the video it can be thought that in order to design some object, first dreams should be in mind like Renaissance architects did in that times before constructing buildings. While dreaming all conditions should be thought: use of the building, atmosphere and appearance etc.

Another idea that can get from the video that mentioned in Alberti also. He said in On Painting: " Painting possesses a truly divined power in that not only does it make the absent present(as they say of friendship), but also represents the dead to the living many centuries later, so that they are recognized by spectators with pleasure and deep admiration for the artist"(p.60 par 25). Renaissance painters and architects put past, present and future in one painting or a building. Zumthor, who is an architect, says that "You can tell the building knows something about time, knows about the time before and the time which might come."

Being a part of something bigger that us gives an opportunity to understand paintings, architecture and even life. In a painting, it is a fact that anything can put in it. Objects from the past, buildings that are dreamed of to be real or even dead people can depicted on a painting as art is product of dreams whatever you wish to draw, build, design, sculpt despite art is imitation of real world. Any imagined or out of date thing can be put on a painting. As architectural structures are not only part of imagination of architect, but also have evidences from past like people lived in that building what happened in that building in many years or how architect decided to construct in that appearance etc. If we think building as a living creature its experiences will be related with its soul. That leads us the point that every building has its soul inside, as a result of past, present and even future.
