After discussing suggested painting techniques by Alberti in class, it is time to find some sample renaissance paintings and analyse them!
First of all, let's start with a painting that has all Alberti's suggested painting techniques
First things first, the only color that is used is BLACK which is a huge plus according to Alberti. As specified by him, "if white and black were made from those pearls Cleopatra dissolved in vinegar, so that painters would become as mean as possible with them, for their works would then be both more agreeable and nearer the truth"(84).
The truth is obviously the Nature. So, being rational is another key to success. We can achive that by using linear perspective and this is what the painter did in his work. The existence of vanishing point makes the paint more deeper. Of course, usage of black and the role of mountain as a background help that depth perception.
The last thing that I want to mention is, usage of high level geometry. This is the last aspect among all that helps to create a three-dimentional space on a two-dimetional plane. In other words, the last aspect of creating a more natural painting.
I am not going to analyse the following painting. However, it is so beautiful that I don't want to keep myself. You also should appreciate the painter, Bernardo Bellotto, for creating such a realistic description on a paper:
