Story of Cesare Borgia

After what we discussed about Machiavelli's Prince this week, I found the story of Cesare Borgia very interesting.

It is said that he resigned from the church in order to become a military commander. Related to what he managed to do in the political history, it would be fair to say that he has the virtues to reach his own goals.

Fortunately, he lived in a special period of time in which papacy was considered both spiritual and military power. This can be the reason how he gained a powerful image in the eyes of the society, but maintainig this power required patience and cold blood. He was blinded by the power he might have with his resources and ambition. As a result, he continued to papacy's corruption by aggresive behaviors and became a cause for Protestant Reformation.

For those who are interested with Protestant Reformation, here is several links to look (:

  1. I cannot agree more! It takes lots of courage to do what Cesare Borgia did in that time. Even though he was cruel in the manner of political and government related issues, he was brilliant enough to understand how politics works.

  2. So I wonder if the painter or Borgia himself were concerned with the fact that his shoulders are too narrow and his hand too small in that painting? Ha.
