The art of creating or representing some sort of object or event and doing it with the help of mathematics to make great works was the ultimate reach of Renaissance. But there were limitations, simply you can't go beyond 2D planes if you would like to create an environment. With an exception of course, sculptors had the opportunity to create 3D objects but for example if you would like to represent The Last Supper with marbel the cost and the required time would not simply let you to do that. You might get a taste where is this going but still let me explain what i am going to say briefly. The tools and thinking in Renaissance is nothing compared to technology we have in our hands today, with the help of computers anything you can imagine can be created and your audience can observe what you created like they are real.
The improvement in computer science gives humanity all they need to create anything they imagine in real life scale. This was not possible in Renaissance, artists were using different techniques to give this "real life" feeling for their work. Video games are the best examples for this comparison. For example if you saw the in game footage of Ryse: Son of Rome you would be amazed by the great art work done by the artists with the help of computer technology. To me the value of those kind of art is not any below the works done by the Renaissance artists.
On the other hand, this observations created some questions in my mind. What would happened if the tools we have right now could be used by the great Renaissance artists like Da Vinci and Michelangelo? For me the expectations are so high. Think about it would you not want to experience a game who says "Art Director Leonardo Da Vinci". If you ask to me. Hell yeah! I can't even imagine the beauty of the game. That would be amazing.
To sum up, Renaissance artists done the best they can in 2D with the tools they have, But right know we have so much potential to create art works which can cast shadow to the arts in the past.
I came with this ideas thanks to this video. You should check it out.
